"Cuore di cane" racconta invece il tentativo di trasformare un cane in una creatura in qualche modo umana tramite il trapianto di ipofisi e testicoli di un ubriacone morto. Il randagio finira con l'ereditare i peggiori difetti di entrambe le sue nature. Due piccoli ma incisivi capolavori della letteratura del Novecento, capofila di un intero filone di letteratura fantastica.
